Hi, I’m Amber

Born and raised in North Carolina, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who pursued a career in mental health therapy because it’s been a long-time passion and an instrumental tool in my own life.

I have a background in psychology and mathematics, and first worked as a high school math teacher for many years before switching careers. I graduated from Florida State University with my Masters in Social Work, where I began my career with experience in inpatient mental health services. I later spent time working in university counseling where I focused on providing CBT and DBT-based interventions to students on campus. It was here that I started my specialization in eating disorders and trauma work. I have since been in private practice since 2020 where I provide therapy to individuals with many concerns, and have specific interest in trauma, eating disorders, LGBTQIA+ issues, mood disorders, and grief. My clientele is diverse, spanning age, race, gender identity, sexuality, and mental health needs.

Pronouns: she/her/hers

I consider myself an integrative therapist, utilizing many modalities to fit what my clients need. I draw largely from Dialectical Behavioral, Cognitive Behavioral, and Internal Family Systems therapies. I think it’s important for clients to understand why I do the things I do, and will frequently provide psychoeducation about brain science, development, and therapeutic modalities to broaden understanding about behavior, thought processes, and emotions. I’m also passionate about learning, and love learning new therapeutic skills that can benefit my clients.

I have a collaborative spirit and work closely with clients to make a treatment plan that works best for them and their identified goals. I value commitment to healing, the openness it requires of us, and I truly believe in the capacity for change. I provide a challenging environment for clients, utilizing and combination of compassion and humor to help people feel heard, validated, and safe.

An important part of my work is as an equine-assisted psychotherapist. For much of my life, my world revolved around horses, and I’m honored to be able to incorporate them in my career. You can see more about equine-assisted psychotherapy here.

When I’m not at work, I’m an avid horsewoman and dog lover, I enjoy cooking without recipes, and exploring new music.
